Despite pledges from City Hall of a forthcoming cycle lane on the Westway, the road itself, as well as those around it, remain of questionable cycling-friendliness. The reality is that the flyover’s role as a sustainable transport artery is still a distant dream. To maintain the visibility of local wishes for more cycle-friendly infrastructure around the Westway and promote the Green Westway campaign, a cycle ride was organised. Starting at Elgin Avenue and ending by Hyde Park, the route went around the Westway, and was shaped like a bicycle to become a ‘bike around the Westway’ in more than one sense. It took place on the 1st of March, and could be followed on twitter at #Cycle4AGreenWestway.
