At beginning of this month on 1 April 2014, the geographer Daniel Raven-Ellison launched the Greater London National Park. But, this was no April Fools Day Prank, in Raven-Ellison’s words this is ‘the world’s first urban national park that encompasses an entire city. The park is unique in recognising the value of its urban habitat, celebrating its beauty, wildlife, built environment and cultural heritage.’ This ‘gentile guerilla campaign’ is a more than a provocation, it’s a movement petitioning the Mayor of London to make this a reality. Green Westway is a friend of the Greater London National Park because we believe that in reconceptualising London as an urban area that puts its appreciation of biodiversity, nature, and people first, then it’s only logical that the city’s appetite for green infrastructure and community projects will grow. This could help the Green Westway become a reality, and you can read what we think in more detail on Green Futures Magazine and New Start Magazine.
